NEWBORN - INFANT AILMENTS AND HOMEOPATHY

Bringing a new baby home from the hospital is an exciting as well as a very anxious time. Although your baby may be perfectly healthy there are some common conditions that your baby may experience. Now I will discuss some infant ailments that can be treated easily and safely with the help of Homeopathic medicines. The remedies given below with the specific health conditions are just a few of the commonly used Homeopathic remedies and are mentioned only to create awareness about the effectiveness of Homeopathic medicines in infant ailments. It is not advisable to resort to self-medication for any health issues.

Neonatal Thrush: Thrush is a common fungus that is usually present in the vagina. If the natural balance of the vagina is disturbed especially during pregnancy, this fungus can overgrow, causing redness, itching, burning, and a flaky white, cheesy discharge. The newborn may pick up the infection during birth or through breast milk. In babies it develops as cracks in the corners of the mouth and white patches on the tongue, palate, lips, and inside of the cheeks causing it to be sore while sucking on a bottle or breastfeeding making the baby cry during feeding.

Tips:
• Nursing moms should add yoghurt to their diet, this will help re-establish the correct balance of bacteria and fungi.
• Clean your baby’s mouth from inside with a damp wash cloth after every feed.

Homeopathic remedies:
• Borax and Candida tincture application to the thrush area inside the mouth may be helpful.

Colic is sharp abdominal pain with severe intermittent cramping. Colic is most common in the first few weeks to four months of an infant's life. Infants with colic are uneasy and cry in pain, especially after feeds, the baby may become red in the face and pull up legs to ease the stomach pain. They may become constipated or you may notice a change in the color of their stools. In breast-fed babies, colic can be caused by an immature digestive system, air intake while feeding or crying, spicy or acidic food in the mother's diet, the mother's anxiety, over stimulation of the baby or allergic reaction to any food. Colic may become worse when baby is lying down.

Tips:
• It may help to lay the baby over your lap on his tummy and rub his back.
• Be sure to wind baby properly after feeds.
• Walking or rocking the baby might help.
• A mother who is breast feeding must eliminate certain foods like alcohol, tea, coffee, chocolate, spices, onions, garlic, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, peppers, berries, oranges, grapes and apricots.
• Offer your little finger to an uneasy baby who has just fed. Some babies will feed continuously when colicky but the extra milk can overload the stomach and worsen the colic when all they want is comfort sucking.

Homeopathic remedies:

Chamomilla: It is indicated in colicky babies who scream, are restless and want to be constantly rocked and carried. Gaseous distention of abdomen and pain is mainly in the navel region with hot perspiration and facial flushing on only one cheek. Stools may be green and smell of rotten eggs.

Colocynthis: Colic with a bloated abdomen is a strong indication for this remedy. The pain may be severe and coming in waves. Babies look extremely restless and want to draw their legs up. They feel better when carried tummy-down, with firm pressure on the stomach, having their tummies rubbed or after passing a stool. They may develop green diarrhea. They are worse after eating fruits, in a warm room and before a bowel movement.

Dioscorea: This remedy is indicated in babies with a growling and gaseous tummy. The pain may be paroxysmal, with gas and burping, worse in the morning and on lying and better from holding them upright.

Nux vomica: This remedy is helpful in colicky pains that result when the nursing mother has eaten spicy food, overeaten or overindulged in coffee, alcohol, and other stimulating substances.

Diaper rash: The most common cause of this rash is soiled diaper left on for too long which makes the area warm and soaked in ammonia from urine, or bacteria and fungi from stools. Buttocks, thighs and genitals become sore, red and infected with thrush, a yeast fungus. Fungal infection or an allergic reaction to soap or detergent left in fabric diapers due to inadequate rinsing can also cause diaper rash.

Tips:
• Change diapers often.
• At each change bathe the rash with lukewarm water - do not use soap.
• Pat the affected area dry with a soft towel and apply Homeopathic Calendula ointment.
• Leaving the baby diaper free from time to time helps the skin to dry out and promotes healing.
• Never use perfumed wipes on inflamed skin and avoid talcum powder, as it tends to cake on the skin, trapping germs and causing sores.
• If using fabric diapers wash them with a mild baby detergent and rinse thoroughly by putting them through an extra rinse cycle in the washing machine.

Homeopathic remedies:
• Calendula ointment can be applied to the affected area.
• Sulphur: This remedy is indicated when the skin becomes dry, scaly and looks unhealthy between buttocks, on genitals and may extend up the back.
• Mercurius: This remedy is indicated when the diaper area is very moist and is associated with teething.

Diarrhea: Frequent loose, watery stools could create dehydration in infants and lead to serious health problems as they cannot survive much fluid loss. Signs of severe dehydration are weariness, dry tongue and mouth, sunken eyes and no urination for 4 to 6 hours. Breastfed babies usually produce runny, yellow stools but these are normal and not an indication of diarrhea.

Tips:
• Encourage fluid intake. Prepare a solution by adding two tablespoons of sugar and one teaspoon of table salt to one liter of boiling water and feed the baby frequently.
• Consult your practitioner immediately if the dehydration symptoms seem severe.

Homeopathic remedies:

Aethusa: This remedy is considered when babies are unable to digest milk, leading to colic, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. The children regurgitate the milk and other food within one hour of eating or drinking, sometimes with vomiting containing yellow or green curds. The infant sweats, appears weak, restless, anxious, and weepy.

Arsenic Album: This remedy works best when babies have symptoms of stomach flu, food poisoning like diarrhea and vomiting. The stools smell offensive. The babies are thirsty all the time, look tired, weak and extremely restless. Warmth and warm drinks provide temporary relief.

Ipecac: Diarrhea with constant nausea is characteristic of this remedy. They have drooling salivation and painful urgings to have a stool.

Nux vomica: This remedy is indicated for diarrhea in breast fed babies after Mom has eaten rich or spicy foods. These children feel better after a stool, but will have diarrhea again immediately after eating or upon waking.

Cold & Cough: Common cold and cough is an inflammatory process that affects the respiratory tract. This could be very uncomfortable for an infant as breast or bottle fed babies cannot suck with its nose blocked or chest congested and has to use its mouth for breathing. Your baby may dilate his nostrils when he breathes, or use the muscles around his rib cage and collarbone to help him get air into his lungs, or he may make a sound and tighten his abdominal muscles. He may also make a wheezing sound when he breathes. This may also affect the Eustachian tube leading to earache.

Tips:
• Infants have not developed defense mechanism and resistance to sudden changes of weather hence they should be protected from sudden changes of weather.
• Keep infants away from children or adults suffering from cold or any other viral or chest infections.
• The nose of the infants should be kept clean.
• Infant should be kept warm and comfortable.

Homeopathic remedies:

Aconite: This remedy is useful when the baby develops sudden cold and cough after exposure to cold wind making the baby very restless.

Belladonna: This remedy is best indicated for cold with a barking cough, high fever and a red face in a very thirsty baby.

Mercurius: This remedy works well when baby develops cold and cough with a sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, ear ache and is sensitive to cold weather.

Hepar Sulph: This remedy can be given to babies who have a dry rattling cough, like wheezing. The baby may not want to eat or may cry while eating due to throat pain on swallowing.

Eczema: This is an inflammatory skin disease and is known as infantile seborrhoeic eczema in infants. It usually starts on the scalp known as cradle cap or the diaper area and quickly spreads to the face, elbows, knees, neck, wrists and ankles. Although this type of eczema looks unpleasant, it is not sore or itchy and does not cause the baby any discomfort.

Tips:
• Avoid long baths for your baby as they can easily remove natural oils from the skin. Moisture can be locked into the skin by applying a non-allergenic baby cream or lotion after washing.
• Bathe your baby without using soap.
• Use mild detergents for washing your baby’s clothes.
• Try to expose affected areas of skin to the air as much as possible. Lengthy exposure to sunlight should be avoided as this will have a detrimental affect on the eczema.
• Try to wear soft cotton clothing while carrying your baby as other fabrics would irritate your baby’s skin. Also cotton bedding and comforters might be more soothing to the baby’s skin.
• Avoids pets in the house as pet hair can cause an allergic reaction on your baby’s skin.
• Avoid excessive heat in your house and use a good and clean humidifier.

Homeopathic remedies:

Sulphur: This remedy is best indicated when the skin looks very unhealthy and gets dry and red in bed or after a bath.

Rhus Tox: This remedy is indicated when the skin looks blistered and gets worse in damp conditions.

Petroleum: This remedy works very well when the skin erupts with yellow crusts and is worse at night.

Graphites: This remedy is considered when the skin looks cracked and oozing.
Calendula ointment and olive oil can also help as local application.

Sleep problems:
There are many reasons why babies suffer from sleeping problems. Sometimes sleep problems become chronic and a pattern of insomnia sets in. The main causes of sleeplessness in babies could be colic, nasal congestion, teething, a lack of bedtime routine, and a high sugar diet and stimulants like coffee and tea by nursing mothers.

Tips:
• Set up a routine schedule for naps and night time sleep.
• Treat any condition that is keeping the baby awake.
• Keep evenings calm and do not over stimulate the baby too much.
• Make sure the baby is not hungry while going to sleep.
• Nursing Moms should avoid coffee, tea, chocolate drinks and other stimulant foods.

Homeopathic remedies:

Aconite: This remedy works best when the baby wakes up due to a fright or nightmare.

Chamomilla: This remedy is indicated when the baby is irritable and only stops crying when picked up and carried around. The moment it is laid down, it starts crying again.

Coffea: This remedy is best indicated when the baby is over stimulated.

Nux Vomica: This remedy can be given when the baby always wakes up around 4.00 am crying and cannot be consoled.

Passiflora: This remedy is also useful in treating colic and its high safety profile makes it a gentle and very effective choice for treating the symptoms of insomnia in babies.

Teething: Teething usually begins at about the age of six or seven months, with most of the first teeth breaking through before your baby is 18 months old. Some babies have a tough time and may refuse food, become clingy, irritable, suffer excessive dribbling of saliva, become sleepless and restless at night, gums may be red and swollen. He will try to cram his fingers into his mouth and chew on his fingers or bite any hard object that he can get hold of. It is important to realize that the symptoms of teething do not include diaper rash, vomiting, diarrhea or loss of appetite. These are symptoms of an underlying illness, and not teething, but stress and discomfort of teething can lower a child’s resistance to infection.

Tips:
• Hugs, kisses and cuddling your baby more often helps.
• Offer cold water or teething rings that have been chilled in the refrigerator.
• Rub your child's gums with a clean finger.

Homeopathic remedies:

Chamomilla: This remedy is indicated when the baby is hyperirritable, screaming and hitting with inflamed gums, drooling and a desire to keep fingers constantly in the mouth. Stools are loose and green. One cheek of the baby is hot and red, while the other is pale. They demand things but reject them as soon as they are given. During sleep they toss and turn and may cry aloud. The only relief they experience comes when they are being carried about or rocked.

Ferrum Phos: This remedy works well when the baby has inflamed gums with fever.

Calcarea Phos: This remedy helps the teeth come through if they are slow in coming.

Homeopathic medicines have a widespread application for pediatric complaints, the pellets can be dissolved in water and given to even a newborn baby. A growing number of parents today are concerned about the side effects of conventional drugs, especially in the treatment of newborns and infants. Since Homeopathic remedies are free of any chemical toxicity, it is the ideal medicine for people of all ages, even the most sensitive like a newborn baby. Babies respond very well to Homeopathic treatment since they have not been exposed as much to conventional drug therapy as adults. Homeopathy is fast acting and brings back the healthy state in the quickest possible manner; be it fever, cough-cold, diarrhea, asthma, etc. Homeopathy helps in building body resistance in children who habitually have recurring infections due to lowered resistance power, as a result of which the child will not fall sick frequently. Infantile colic- Homeopathy to the Rescue

Homeopathy offers numerous remedies to aid the digestion of babies and treat colic. Colic is manifested by a griping pain in the bowels that can cause an infant to bend double or pull up his feet. Gas or belching can alleviate colic, but some infants are more prone to colic than others. About 20% of babies experience colic. Symptoms can start as soon as three months of age, possibly triggered by the development of the digestive system. With crying lasting over three hours a day, mothers everywhere are in need of a solution.

Symptoms of colic vary from child to child, but most infants will pull up their legs to their abdomen and become red in the face from crying. Their feet may be cold, or their hands clenched.

Homoeopathic remedies can be used to treat acute colic. Observe the child to see if they are bending double, if they prefer touch or no touch, what position they are comfortable in, what is their mood, what color is their stool. These are the indicators that help differentiate homeopathic remedies for colic.

Child can have dry skin, lips, and mouth and be sensitive to damp and cold, feeling chilly from exposure to the cold. They are better when they are kept warm, and from walking around. Hands and feet will both feel cold. Read
China

Gout- Homeopathy to the Rescue

This is a really effective, just mix green papaya cubes to the ordinary green tea, my cousin brother tried and found it very effective. I have also shared with a friend with gout to try this (his "toe joints" started to deform), after a week of drinking this formula there is significant improvement, after two weeks the toe joints heal and revert to normal state. It is almost three years now, the joint pain is gone, but he maintain the intake between 1-3 times monthly to avoid relapse.

Other friends suffering from years of gout problem have also recovered. It is good for all, even those without gout.

Good formula! Do share with the people in need!

An improved sequence by Professor Lai from the China School of Pharmacy :

Cut green papaya into small cubes, place into the water, bring to boil, then add green tea leaves, similar to the tea-making process. Clinical tests show that this brings better effects for treatment of gout, subject to frequent drinking of this formula.

Mr Liu Qing, Chief of the Rende Town in Tainan , was suffering for years from severe stomach pain around the posterior wall of stomach. He used green papaya as a tea pot to prepare the family tea daily, after a month his chronic disease condition was much improved. His family members with high uric acid were also healed by the same papaya tea. For this Mr Liu planted a lot of papaya to share with relatives and friends with similar sickness.

According to Mr Liu, in selection of the Green Papaya as tea pot, pick those whose shape are fat and short, with larger capacity. Cut off the top part of the papaya, clear away the seeds, open a small hole at the upper side wall to facilitate pouring of tea. Create a small ventilation hole at top cover, put in the tea leaves, pour in boiling water, place the top cover back to papaya, you may use the toothpicks to secure the top cover. Similar to normal process of preparing tea.

Liu like to use Oolong tea as the taste is good. He was pleasantly surprised that the stomach pains he suffered for many years was healed after a month of drinking tea from the green papaya pot, without taking any other medication. He passed some green papaya leaves to a friend who worked at a Medical Center to test and analyse the content. The tests confirmed that healthy the enzyme present in papaya is beneficial to human health. Now as papaya in Mr Liu's orchard is yeilding suitable size fruit, he would share the fruits with family and friends.

Xu Fuchang, an experienced papaya farmers, the green papaya refers to papaya that is not ripe, where the skin is still green in colour. Generally, the papaya takes about four months to fully mature and ripe, but there healing effect would be lost after it is fully ripe. Green Papaya should be harvested when the papaya is approximately three months old, when the fruit is still firm, and the "papaya milk" contains high papaya enzyme and other healthy ingredients. Not only the green papaya can be used in tea drinking, you may also cut them into cubes, and boil with the ribs, or even slicing the green papaya into fine long pieces and fried with garlic, very tasty, and no adverse effects on the human body.

The health benefits of COCONUT

The health benefits of coconut oil include hair care, skin care, stress relief, maintaining cholesterol levels, weight loss, increased immunity, proper digestion and metabolism, relief from kidney problems, heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, HIV and cancer, dental care, and bone strength.
These benefits of coconut oil can be attributed to the presence of lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid, and its properties such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial, soothing, etc.

How is Lauric Acid Used by our body?
The human body converts lauric acid into monolaurin which is claimed to help in dealing with viruses and bacteria causing diseases such as herpes, influenza, cytomegalovirus, and even HIV. It helps in fighting harmful bacteria such as listeria monocytogenes and heliobacter pylori, and harmful protozoa such as giardia lamblia. As a result of these various health benefits of coconut oil, though its exact mechanism of action was unknown, it has been extensively used in Ayurveda, the traditional Indian medicinal system.

Let us now explore the benefits of coconut oil in detail:

Hair Care: Coconut oil is one of the best natural nutrition for hair. It helps in healthy growth of hair providing them a shiny complexion. Regular massage of the head with coconut oil ensures that your scalp is free of dandruff, lice, and lice eggs, even if your scalp is dry. Coconut oil is extensively used in the Indian sub-continent for hair care. It is an excellent conditioner and helps in the re-growth of damaged hair. It also provides the essential proteins required for nourishing damaged hair. It is therefore used as hair care oil and used in manufacturing various conditioners, and dandruff relief creams. Coconut oil is normally applied topically for hair care.

Stress Relief: Coconut oil is very soothing and hence it helps in removing stress. Applying coconut oil to the head followed with a gentle massage helps in removing mental fatigue.

Skin Care: Coconut oil is excellent massage oil for the skin as well. It acts as an effective moisturizer on all types of skins including dry skin. The benefit of coconut oil on the skin is comparable to that of mineral oil. Further, unlike mineral oil, there is no chance of having any adverse side effects on the skin with the application of coconut oil. Coconut oil therefore is a safe solution for preventing dryness and flaking of skin. It also delays wrinkles, and sagging of skin which normally become prominent with age. Coconut oil also helps in treating various skin problems including psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and other skin infections. Therefore coconut oil forms the basic ingredient of various body care products such as soaps, lotions, creams, etc., used for skin care.

Premature Aging: Coconut oil helps in preventing premature aging and degenerative diseases due to its antioxidant properties.

Heart Diseases: There is a misconception spread among many people that coconut oil is not good for the heart. This is because it contains a large quantity of saturated fats. However, coconut oil is beneficial for the heart. It contains about 50% lauric acid, which helps in preventing various heart problems including high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure. The saturated fats present in coconut oil are not harmful as it happens in case of other vegetables oils. It does not lead to increase in LDL levels. It also reduces the incidence of injury in arteries and therefore helps in preventing atherosclerosis.

Weight Loss: Coconut oil is very useful in reducing weight. It contains short and medium-chain fatty acids that help in taking off excessive weight. It is also easy to digest and it helps in healthy functioning of the thyroid and enzymes systems. Further, it increases the body metabolism by removing stress on pancreases, thereby burning out more energy and helping obese and overweight people reduce their weight. Hence, people living in tropical coastal areas, who eat coconut oil daily as their primary cooking oil, are normally not fat, obese or overweight.

Pancreatitis: Coconut oil is also believed to be useful in treating pancreatitis.
Digestion: Internal use of coconut oil occurs primarily as cooking oil. Coconut oil helps in improving the digestive system and thus prevents various stomach and digestion related problems including irritable bowel syndrome. The saturated fats present in coconut oil have anti microbial properties and help in dealing with various bacteria, fungi, parasites, etc., that cause indigestion. Coconut oil also helps in absorption of other nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and amino acids.

Immunity: Coconut oil is also good for the immune system. It strengthens the immune system as it contains antimicrobial lipids, lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid which have antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties.
Healing: When applied on infections, it forms a chemical layer which protects the infected body part from external dust, air, fungi, bacteria and virus. Coconut oil is most effective on bruises as it speeds up the healing process by repairing damaged tissues.

Infections: Coconut oil is very effective against a variety of infections due to its antifungal, antiviral, and antibacterial properties. According to the Coconut Research Center, coconut oil kills viruses that cause influenza, measles, hepatitis, herpes, SARS, etc. It also kills bacteria that cause ulcers, throat infections, urinary tract infections, pneumonia, and gonorrhea, etc. Coconut oil is also effective on fungi and yeast that cause candidiasis, ringworm, athlete's foot, thrush, diaper rash, etc.

Liver: The presence of medium chain triglycerides and fatty acids helps in preventing liver diseases as they substances are easily converted into energy when they reach the liver, thus reducing work load on the liver and also preventing accumulation of fat.

Kidney: Coconut oil helps in preventing kidney and gall bladder diseases. It also helps in dissolving kidney stones.
Diabetes: Coconut oil helps in controlling blood sugar, and improves the secretion of insulin. It also helps in effective utilization of blood glucose, thereby preventing and treating diabetes.

Bones: As mentioned earlier, coconut oil improves the ability of our body to absorb important minerals. These include calcium and magnesium which are necessary for development of bones. Thus coconut oil is very useful to women who are prone to osteoporosis after middle age.

Dental Care: Calcium is an important element present in teeth. Since coconut oil facilitates absorption of calcium by the body, it helps in getting strong teeth. Coconut oil also stops tooth decay.

HIV and Cancer: It is believed that coconut oil plays an instrumental role in reducing viral susceptibility of HIV and cancer patients.
Finally, coconut oil is often preferred by athletes and body builders and by those who are dieting. The reason behind this being that coconut oil contains lesser calories than other oils, its fat content is easily converted into energy and it does not lead to accumulation of fat in the heart and arteries. Coconut oil helps in boosting energy and endurance, and enhances the performance of athletes.

THE USE OF MAGNETS IN MEDICINE

The use of magnets in medicine is not something new. In fact magnets have been used for thousands of years, and many people are not aware of this fact. They think magnet therapy is some new-fangled alternative medicine. Skeptics argue there is no scientific proof they can be effective for the control of pain which is not true. Controlled studies at university medical facilities have shown that the correct placement of specially designed magnets over the area where the pain is occurring does relieve the pain for many people. That is why thousands of athletes use magnets and don't worry about what others think. It is hard to argue with results.

So exactly how do the magnets work to relieve pain? There are detailed scientific explanations that use words like "c-fiber nerves" and "unmyelinated nerves" to explain the conduction of pain along nerve routes in the body. But in layman's terms the magnets work by blocking the sodium, potassium and calcium from accumulating and causing the nerve pressure and pain. When using magnets in medicine, the magnets are attached to the skin right over the area where the pain is felt.

If you think this concept sounds a bit far fetched, then consider this: the electronic resonance imaging machine (MRI) uses a magnetic field to obtain pictures of body tissue in great detail. Athletes know that magnetic therapy accelerates bone healing which is another reason why many athletes are sold on the use of magnets as alternative medicine. Athletes like to avoid taking drugs whenever possible so the use of magnets can provide much needed pain relief in a safe and healthy manner.

Back pain is one of the most common medical problems people experience. Upper or lower back pain can be debilitating. Some people have intense and short episodes of pain while others live with a dull chronic pain. Back pain affects the quality of life in that it can force people to restrict their activities and living with constant pain is extremely stressful.

The use of magnets in medicine in medicine offers alternative pain management without the use of drugs or invasive surgery. The magnets can relieve pain by interrupting the flow of natural body elements that stimulate the nerves and increase blood flow to the pain area. It is well documented that healing can be speeded up by increasing blood flow, because blood carries oxygen. That is one reason why magnetic therapy is used to heal the bones of athletes that have been broken or fractured.

It should be mentioned that magnets are used to block pain in many other areas of the body besides the back. The magnets can relieve pain in the shoulders, neck, elbows, knees and feet. The comprehensive use of magnets in medicine offers pain relief to many people who have decided they will never find relief from pain.

Magnetic therapy has a lot of advantages over traditional methods of pain control. When looking at the use of magnets in medicine, it is easy to see that as a pain management alternative magnetic therapy is safe and worry free. There are no drugs involved and the therapy is non-invasive. You can purchase the magnets without a prescription and they are economical and long lasting.

If you are looking for relief from chronic pain then magnetic therapy may hold the answer. The use of magnets in medicine is a growing field of study which offers much promise for pain sufferers. You can use magnets that create a steep field gradient over the pain area and feel the reduction of pain within a few minutes sometimes. It just does not make any sense to continue suffering when an effective alternative is available.
Magnet therapy can be used to treat everything from arthritis to depression. Magnets are used externally on the body, often in the form of jewelry, to stimulate circulation. This stimulation results in better rest, more resilience and greater health.
Magnetic field therapy is considered a complementary and alternative medical technique. Based on the physical properties of magnets, the therapy has not been substantially evaluated by scientific studies, and has not been approved by the FDA.
The theory behind the use of magnets is based on the perception that a magnetic field imparted on a cancer tumor creates an unfavorable condition in the cancer cells by increasing cell oxygenation. The cancer cells cannot survive in the oxygen-enriched environment, which leads to the death of the cell.
Some people swear that magnetic therapy has done wonders to help ease their pain and ailments. There's been limited scientific studies on the powers of magnets and there are many critics out there. But, it's said that the magnetic field causes particles to move and heat. Blood vessels are widened and blood flow is improved. Magnetic therapy is non-evasive and can be used to treat diabetes.
Menstrual cramps are mild contractions of the uterus that cause a heavy or an aching feeling in the lower belly. If you're looking for a natural technique to treat menstrual cramps, consider magnetic therapy. Basically, magnets create magnetic fields. In theory, magnetic fields can block the pain signals from reaching the brain, creating relief from menstrual cramps.
Magnetic treatment for high blood pressure
Although there is no known cure for the majority of people suffering with high blood pressure, it is possible to treat it very successfully. Mainstream treatments include water tablets (diuretics) and high blood pressure tablets (anti hypertensives: beta blockers, ace inhibitors and calcium channel blockers).
Magnets can also be used to treat high blood pressure by eliminating excess fluid in the body. When a person is first diagnosed with high blood pressure the first course of treatment a doctor will try is diuretics, the aim of water tablets is to eliminate fluid from the body this is a side effect of high blood pressure ( particularly the extremities: hands, feet and ankles). The excess fluid puts pressure in the heart and this in turn increases blood pressure.
The primary aim of diuretics is to get rid of the extra fluid so that blood pressure is reduced, as the workload of the heart reduces. Magnetised water has a natural detoxification effect on the body, drinking at least 4 glasses a day will eliminate excess fluid (plus toxins stored in the fluid) from the body. This has the same effect a that of diuretics in that as the fluid is “off loaded” the workload of the heart is decreased and blood pressure is reduced.

In addition to drinking magnetised water blood pressure can also be reduced by wearing magnets around the wrist. The radial artery is situated in the wrist and is one of the bodies main arteries, when a magnetic field is applied over the radial artery the magnetism is rapidly and distributed around the body. Blood flow is improved around the whole body and the heart ,the whole circulatory system receives increased oxygen which in turn increases oxygenation of the organs and tissues, as a result of the improved oxygenation the heart does not have to pump so many times a minute to ensure enough oxygen is supplied to the body and this reduces the workload which will automatically reduce blood pressure.

Although these 2 magnetic treatments for high blood pressure are extremely effective and will give results very quickly, it is important to remember that high blood pressure medication should not be stopped suddenly. If you use magnets to treat your high blood pressure ensure that your blood pressure is checked regularly by the GP or practice nurse. When your blood pressure has reduced your doctor will reduce your medication accordingly. HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICATION MUST ALWAYS BE REDUCED BY A DOCTOR.
Magnetic treatments for Diabetes
Diabetes has many profound effects on the body, increased risk of heart disease, neuropathy( nerve damage), retinopathy() and poor circulation/healing.
Most of these adverse effects can be very successfully treated with the application of therapeutic magnets to specific areas.
Diabetic neuropathy is long-term damage to the nerve fibres. It happens when high blood sugar levels are present over several years. In diabetes, the form it usually first takes is reduced sensation in the feet. The nerve damage affects each foot equally and eventually spreads up the legs. Poor sensation in your feet makes them more prone to injury. Combined with poor circulation this can easily lead to ulcers and infections.
The nerve damage can be short-term (acute) or long-term (chronic). Because this complication is caused by poor blood sugar control, people who don't take enough care in controlling their diabetes stand a higher risk of developing nerve damage.

Diabetic neuropathy can be treated with magnetic shoes insoles. These are usually flexible ferrite magnets that are formed inside a very thin (2mm thickness) shoe insole. The gauss/tesla rating of magnetic insoles is very high, normally around 25,000 gauss/2.5 tesla , per foot. Because the magnets cover the entire foot area they create one very large magnet that has the ability to create a widespread magnetic field , that can penetrate all the way up to the knee , as well as having the strength to penetrate deep into the tissues.
Tests in the USA, using magnetic insoles on patients with diabetic neuropathy revealed that 90% of the patients tested gained an improvement in blood perfusion ( circulation) and in nerve sensation.
The insoles will drastically improve the blood flow to the feet and lower leg plus the oxygen rich blood will help in the renewal of the nerve endings, which will return sensation to the affected areas. Pain, tingling, burning and numbness will be reduced. Most people report that they can feel an almost immediate warmth in their feet and lower legs , followed by a tingling as sensation and circulation return. For the effects to last the insoles should be worn all day every day, but they can be removed at night time.

It is possible to reduce the damage that has built up over the years, by drinking magnetised water. In short, when you drink water that has been magnetised, the magnetic field is very rapidly transported around the whole body. The size of the water molecule is increased and minerals are more easily absorbed. Toxins are draw out of the tissues and flushed out of the body via the kidneys.
Once water has been magnetised it becomes alkaline and this will reduce acidity in the body, hormone levels can also be affected by the water changes that take place during magnetisation. For a diabetic this means that blood glucose levels are stabilised and do not require so much insulin to regulate them, plus blood cholesterol levels will be reduced, which in turn will reduce build up of plague along artery walls.
Drinking magnetised water on a daily basis will begin to reverse the adverse effects of long term high insulin levels. With out high blood insulin levels circulation and perfusion (oxygenation of the tissues) will improve, including the bodies healing capacity. Once cholesterol levels have reduced the risk of heart disease will also be less. Magnetised water should be used on a permanent basis to act as a preventative measure as well as a treatment of current symptoms.

Chronic Fatique Syndrome or Fibromyalgia- what Homeopathy has to Offer?

Studied Homeopathic Remedies
Arnica montana
Bryonia
Rhus tox

The most prominent feature of fibromyalgia, also known as myofascial pain or fibrositis, is the presence of tender, swollen, and painful muscle knots distributed throughout the body. This symptom is usually accompanied by stiffness, fatigue, and nonrestorative sleep. Other symptoms include alternating diarrhea and constipation (irritable bowel syndrome), headaches, numbness and tingling, and restless legs. Finally, people with fibromyalgia frequently develop prolonged discomfort from injuries so mild that they would not hurt a healthy person for more than a short time.

In severe cases, people with fibromyalgia experience extreme discomfort when almost any part of the body is pressed upon, even lightly. Milder cases involve moderate to severe pain that wanders from one location to another.

Scientific Evaluations of Homeopathic Remedies for Fibromyalgia
Current evidence regarding use of homeopathic remedies for fibromyalgia is mixed.

In a double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study, researchers tested the remedy Rhus toxicodendron 6c on 30 people with fibromyalgia who fit the symptom picture of Rhus tox, as assessed by a homeopathic physician.1 For 1 month, the participants took either Rhus tox 6c or placebo three times daily. For the following month, the participants took the opposite treatment; however, neither participants nor observers knew which was which.

Participants experienced a statistically significant improvement when they were taking the Rhus tox as compared to when they were taking placebo. The number of tender spots was reduced by 25% on average, and the improvement in overall pain and sleep scores was marked when taking the treatment.

However, another small double-blind, placebo-controlled study failed to find evidence of benefit.2 In this study, 24 participants with fibromyalgia were given either placebo or one of three homeopathic remedies (Arnica, Bryonia, or Rhus tox) at 6c potency, prescribed according to traditional homeopathic indications. Participants took remedies or placebo twice daily for 3 months.

The results showed no statistically significant improvements in symptoms among those participants receiving homeopathic remedies as compared to those given placebo. However, researchers were able to find some evidence of benefit in a subgroup of participants. At the very beginning when the homeopathic practitioners chose the initial remedy, they noted whether the remedy was a close fit to the patient or not according to the principles of classical homeopathy. It turns out that if you look only at people whose remedy fit well based on the whole person symptom picture, then some benefits were seen.

This seems to indicate that properly chosen homeopathic remedies might be helpful for fibromyalgia. However, considering the very small number of people involved, it is really impossible to draw any conclusions.

Traditional Homeopathic Treatments for Fibromyalgia
In classical homeopathy, there are many possible homeopathic treatments for fibromyalgia, to be chosen based on various specific details of the person seeking treatment.

For instance, if you feel bruised as if you slept on a very hard bed and you are physically restless and irritable, as well as fatigued, then you may fit the symptom picture of Arnica montana. In addition, the use of Arnica is said to be particularly indicated when the cause of your current complaints can be attributed to a previous injury.

If you want to lie still because even a slight movement makes the pain worse and you prefer cool applications to warm ones, then your symptom picture may fit the remedy Bryonia. Other characteristics associated with this remedy include feeling extremely grumpy and not wanting anyone to disturb you.

Homeopathic Rhus tox is used under circumstances similar to those that indicate Bryonia. However, unlike the Bryonia recipient, who wants to lie still and is made worse by the least motion, the Rhus tox picture invokes a person who benefits from motion and wants to be active. In addition, the condition will worsen with exposure to cold and dampness and improve in dry warm weather.

Homeopathy offers several remedies to Fibromyalgia, classified on the basis of the discrete symptoms of the disease:

  1. Rhus Tox: Rhus Tox is an excellent antidote for rheumatism induced stillness and muscle pain. When paired with suitable exercises, it can afford a lot of relief.
  2. Ruta Grav: Ruta Grav aids in relieving tendon pains and sustained usage helps in restoring muscle strength in case of Fibromyalgia.
  3. Rhododendron: Often the Fibromyalgia pain gets aggravated with a marked change in the season. Rhododendron mitigates the intensity of the pain.
  4. Arnica: For any injury induced body ache, Arnica is an extremely effective cure. It also functions as the foremost option, when the precise causes or the symptoms are unknown.
  5. Causticum: Certain forms of Fibromyalgia are accompanied with soreness, weakness and a feeling of stillness. Causticum soothes such ailments.
  6. Bryonia: Bryonia alleviates chronic pain in the soft tissues of the body. Exposure to heat needs to be avoided mandatorily in order to optimize the effect of Bryonia.
  7. Kalmia Latifolia: When besides the obverse symptoms of Fibromyalgia, the pain in the muscle is accompanied with a feeling of cold and numbness, one of the best homeopathic cures is Kalmia Latifolia.

Should you spank your child?

Your child is throwing the temper tantrum of the century. Scratching, hitting, biting, spitting, and screaming—it can’t get much worse. What do you do? Do you spank your child or will that just make matters worse?

Spanking is one of the most controversial forms of child discipline. Most child development professionals agree that spanking is ineffective and may lead to more aggressive behavior. But many individuals and groups support or encourage spanking as part of a disciplinary approach for children. According to the National Survey of Early Childhood Health, other commonly used forms of discipline include taking away toys or treats, yelling, using time out, and giving explanations. Only 29% of the parents surveyed had spanked a child under three years of age. But in other studies, more than 90% of American families report that they have spanked their child at some point.

So what should parents do? Is spanking the best way to discipline children or are other methods more effective?

Child Discipline
Discipline is a way of teaching children the restraint and values necessary to become competent and independent adults. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), an effective discipline system contains three vital elements:

A learning environment characterized by positive, supportive parent-child relationships
A strategy for teaching and reinforcing positive behaviors
A strategy for decreasing and eliminating undesired behaviors

Most parents reward good behaviors and punish bad behaviors. The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) recommends rewarding your child’s good behavior with things like:

Praise
An extra bedtime story
Delaying bedtime by a half hour
A preferred snack
Points toward a special toy or privilege

Bad behaviors, on the other hand, can by punished by:

Ignoring your child
Sending your child to time-out
Verbally reprimanding your child
Taking away privileges

Many parents report that they use spanking to punish unacceptable behaviors, but most child development professionals agree that spanking is among the least effective forms of discipline

Consequences of Spanking
Research shows that although spanking can stop an undesirable behavior in the short-term, its effectiveness diminishes with each subsequent spanking. The AAP has identified the following consequences of spanking:

Spanking of children younger than 18 months increases the chances of physical injury, and the child is unlikely to understand the connection between the behavior and the punishment.
Repeated spanking may cause agitated, aggressive behavior in the child that may lead to physical altercation between parent and child.
Spanking models aggressive behavior as a solution to conflict and has been associated with increased aggression in children.
Spanking and threats of spanking lead to altered parent-child relationships, making discipline substantially more difficult when physical punishment is no longer an option, such as with adolescents.
Spanking is no more effective than other disciplinary approaches, and reliance on spanking as a disciplinary approach makes other strategies less effective.
A pattern of spanking may be sustained or increased.
Studies reported in the journal Pediatrics show that spanking prior to the age of two was strongly associated with behavior problems when children reached school age. These findings were significant only for white, non-Hispanic children.

For these reasons, the AAP strongly discourages any form of striking a child. They recommend that, if the spanking is spontaneous, parents should calmly explain why they did it, how angry they felt, and perhaps apologize to the child.

Alternatives to Spanking
If spanking isn’t effective, what is? Many child development professionals recommend “extinction” approaches, or the removal of positive reinforcement after unacceptable behavior. Two effective and commonly used extinction approaches are the time-out method and the removal of privileges.

The Time-out Method
The time-out method is highly effective in young children. To use this option, you must first set the ground rules. Make it clear to your child which behaviors—tantrums, hitting, and yelling, for example—will warrant a time-out. Select a quiet, removed location where your child will have to sit.

When your child misbehaves, give one warning, then put him in time-out if the behavior continues. Set a timer immediately—the AAFP recommends one minute for each year of age—and leave your child in time-out. You should stay within earshot and reset the timer if your child continues to misbehave. When the timer is over, allow your child to leave the designated area.

Removal of Privileges
Removal of privileges usually works best for older children and adolescents. Make a short list of important rules your child must follow, and let him know what the consequences of breaking the rules are.

Removing privileges such as driving, watching TV, or playing video games for a set amount of time is effective in discouraging future rule breaking. Another effective strategy that works well with adolescents and even older children is not allowing them to participate in activities, such as parties, sports events, or outings with friends.

Positive Reinforcement
While time-out and removal of privileges both work well for punishing and discouraging bad behavior, you should also encourage good behavior by rewarding it. Praise your child when he deserves it. Extend your child’s privileges when he follows the rules. Develop a points system that allows your child to earn points toward a reward with good behavior.

By teaching your child that bad behavior is unacceptable and good behavior is rewarded, you will have instilled important values in your child that will help him become a self-sufficient, well-adjusted young adult.
